Deadly Ponies: Repurposed
Introducing Puzzle; designed and handcrafted from recycled off-cuts of favourite materials from seasons passed. The limited edition range, available only at Deadly Ponies stores and online, is inspired by the work of Adeline Harris Sears’ Autograph Quilt, with cubism influences seen throughout the marquetry print. Handcrafted and stitched at Deadly Ponies’ own atelier, each piece in the collection is entirely unique.
We began the concept for our Puzzle collection from an incredibly talented teenage artist in the 19th century, Adeline Harris Sears, who created the ‘Autograph Quilt’. Drawing on the element of nostalgia typically woven into quilts, she sent small square pieces of fabric to over 100 notable figures at the time requesting their signature and a message. The resulting quilt had messages from the likes of Charles Dickens and Abraham Lincoln.
Captivated by her story, we’ve recreated the idea with our own little pieces of history.
To further our goal to be more circular, we wanted to rework and repurpose leathers from previous seasons, creating our first foray into a truly archival collection. The sentimental four-piece capsule sees the use of some of our favourite python and croc-embossed leathers, as well as distorting of the Deadly Ponies mark to amplify the cubism-look of the product.
A laborious and hands-on process, the four styles involved taking archival leather and cutting them into wafer-thin puzzle pieces, before backing them and hand-stitching together using traditional and meticulous Marquetry techniques. Each individual Mr Boxette, for example, could take up to two days to craft and stitch together before the finishing touches - adding to the considered quality of the capsule.
