Into the archives
We're taking a moment out of the uncertainty to pause, reflect, and revisit our much-loved collections past.
High Winter 2016
We looked to heavens in the creation for this season, Rust. Inspired by astrology and the romanticism of ancient mythologies, the luxury accessories label presents a fiery, brilliant collection.
Winter Injection 2015
Mop Mop sees Deadly Ponies step out of the palace gates and into their riding breeches. The collection explores the raw, minimalist and utilitarian qualities of the French Revolution. Liam drew upon aspects from artists Robert Morris and Joseph Beuys to develop a compelling story using felt, deer nappa and monochrome hues. Morris’ minimalism and virtuoso manipulation of felt, combine with Beuys’ exploration into survival, to develop a collection that celebrates the unique marriage between hard and soft, wealth and modesty.
Deadly Ponies walk the line between flamboyant indulgence and humble simplicity in their new collection, Pompernickel. Inspired by the parallel world that was France in the 18th century.
We worked closely with the Len Lye Foundation and the New Zealand Film Archive to capture the magic, delight and seduction of Lye’s film in a series of accessories. Using film stills from ‘Rainbow Dance’ and ‘Trade Tattoo’ Deadly Ponies Liam developed a series of bags, wallets and scarves with visually arresting prints and colours.
A plunge into the deep blue sea. Entitled Captain Nobody, Liam was inspired by the novel and film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea when designing the collection.
Our Captain Nobody collection saw our first Mr Cub Chain emerge from the deep; now one of our most loved classics. Having gone on a brief hiatus, you can discover our new and improved Mr Cub Chain available on pre-order now.
Inspired by American artist James Turrell's work and his clever manipulation of light, Liam wanted to create a collection that conjured images of an explosion of ideas and colour. “Designing is an eruption of ideas and only when the dust settles does the true concept come to light. Red Giant is a reflection of that creative process."
Autumn Winter 2012
Rag cotton fabric beautifully framed in New Zealand deer leather sets off a couple of signature pieces in this season’s rage. Designer Liam Bowden says his fascination with the millions of colours in a single piece of rag felting really set his mind whirling. “It became a challenge to turn something ugly into something beautiful”
Now a cult classic, our Hurrichain collection saw the arrival of a new family on the block, Mr Chain Mail. Now a seasonal favourite time and time again, we've heard a rumour there might be a new arrival looming...
EGG, WHITE AND BLUE
Inspiration can strike at any time. And it can be anything... like the aforementioned egg-printed napkin at dinner.
OPPOSITE: Liams First Bag
Kip by name, kip by nature. Whether it be an international venture, or a short domestic jaunt, Liam's first bag, Kip, is sure to be at his side. Housing toasty cover-ups for a ski-slope holiday, or tropical trunks for a jaunt at the beach, this cow-hide carry-all has been a constant travel companion, along for the ride whenever foreign soil sparks inspiration.
