Our Story
Established by Liam Bowden in 2005, Deadly Ponies has grown from a tiny, garage-based project to an internationally renowned leather accessories brand, with flagship boutiques in Auckland, Wellington, and soon, Queenstown.
A celebrated collaboration between Liam, and husband, Steven Boyd, Deadly Ponies first began with Liam making one-off leather pieces and jewellery in his garage, self-taught in pattern construction, sewing, and finishing. In 2009, Liam met Steve and the pair hit it off immediately. Nearly 15 years later, they are partners in life and in business, as co-founders of Deadly Ponies.
Harbouring both a consistent drive for pushing conceptual boundaries, and the pursuit of full transparency in every stage of creation, Liam and Steve design pieces both unique and iconic, with sumptuous materials and artisanal quality craftsmanship ensuring longevity (and a long list of notable fans).

Propelled by our desire to lead by example in the fashion world, Deadly Ponies seeks to minimise their impact on the planet, and are considered, accountable and innovative in every aspect of their practice. With an aim to become the world’s most responsible leather accessories brand, we are proud to have achieved Toitu’s carbon-zero certification, and have our sights next set on becoming zero-waste certified.
Designed in Aotearoa, our Deadly Ponies pieces are crafted through select partners, and at our custom-built eco-atelier in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The 57-strong workforce is comprised of artisans trained in French leatherworking techniques, pattern makers, leather cutters, stitchers, painters, and finishers.
A Deadly Ponies piece is handcrafted at every stage of the process - a true labour of love. We take supple, ethically-sourced leathers & materials and create coveted and eminently usable works of art, to be cherished by you, for years to come.
